Best Pool Idea Ever!!!, October 18, 2009
By scooterdude from PA

Pros: This thing does not miss a beat, best idea ever!
Cons: None Whatsoever!

"This pump is the best thing since sliced bread. It just got done raining for three days straight. I have an above ground pool that puddles in two places. Having only one pump, I had to move from one place to the other. This was not a problem since sliding the pump into the middle of the puddle, squeezing the bulb two or three times, and walking back into the house only took about a minute.
This is a very simple siphon device, and works as such, The people having trouble operating this pump might try shortening the hose, you only need enough to reach from the pump to the ground beside the pool, I cut about four feet off. I will be purchasing another one next year to make draining the water off my cover even easier

PS. It even drains while sucking air, most siphons will stop. This pump brought a 4' x 10' puddle down to a 14" puddle in less than two hours, the time it takes to watch a movie in your dry home I used a snow shovel to remove the little that was left, and in a few hours, I had a completely dry cover.

Very good product, September 9, 2009
By NJPoolStud from NJ

Pros: No electicity needed, does good in the cold and snow
Cons: a little slow so I got two

"I bought two of these two winters ago for my above-ground pool cover and plan on using them again this winter. Not sure why people say they are having a tough time getting them started. As long as it is lower than the pool cover when I pump it I can get it started with a few pumps.

It does go a little slow but since it doesn't use any electricity you get it started and walk away so it doesn't matter how long it takes. I bought two and of course it goes twice as fast with two.

I do suggest getting a leaf net cover for above your regular cover. I put this pump in between the two and it works great. This way there is never leaves underneath it.

I have left them outside in freezing and snowy weather for 2 winters and they still work perfectly.

I also suggest if you use a pool pillow that you buy two so that you can have one on each side. This way you don't have to keep moving it around.

Nice to see a good product that is not two expensive.

Great Pool Tool, July 11, 2009
By anaree from Braintree, MA

Pros: The Above-Ground Cover Drain Worked very well removing water from the pool cover!
Cons: One thing about the Above-Ground Cover Drain that I didn't like was that the hand pump did not work at all.

"We ordered the Above-Ground Cover Drain to remove the standing water from our pool cover. It worked very well removing the water. It ran continuously until the water level was below the rim of the pool.
The one thing wrong was that we had to suck on the tube/hose to get the water removal started. The little hand pump that came with the product did not work at all.
Otherwise a very good and easy to use product. I would recommend it to a friend.

Not a good purchase, March 24, 2009
By Jeannie from Middletown, NY

Pros: none
Cons: very slow, tube came in kinked, not worth the money

"I had a similar one to this several years ago that worked fairly well. This one is very slow, hard to get started and overall just not worth the aggravation to get it going. I am strongly considering an electric one in the future.
This is just a waste of money and time. Not worth purchasing... seek other options.

Like this product, January 2, 2009
By Aletta from West Virginia

Pros: easy to use and it works
Cons: It doesn't last forever, but what does

"I've used this cover drain for years and years, even after the bulb stopped working years ago. Now the tubing is inflexible, so I am ordering a new one. I wouldn't want to be without it."

Bummer, November 29, 2008
By terrip from NJ

"I was looking forward to getting this pump as my cover is filling with water (this is our first year with a pool). I hooked up the hoses, put it on the cover and pumped the bulb...and nothing...absolutely nothing. I still have a cover full if water. We are going to give it one more time adn if we cannot get it to wok, we will send it back. I am really disappointed."

excellent product, November 12, 2008
By DACM from Jacksonville, NC

Pros: inexpensive, reliable

"I have owned this product for many years. My husband yanked on the drain hose and broke the plastic fittting. I'm definately buying another. It even works if your cover is leaf covered. It has enough weight to drain cover towards drain. I really like it."

POOR PRODUCT, October 2, 2008
By BOOKMARK930 from Hopatcong, NJ

Pros: SIMPLE CONCEPT
Cons: POOR DIRECTIONS

"There are really no directions except on the box; the problem I had with it was that it would not lay flat on the pool cover; kept tipping sideways so it would not drain all the water; had to kept repositioning it on the cover. If you do not want the hassle of using a sump pump and having to attach a hose, this product is for you."

not worth it..., September 26, 2008

Pros: cheap
Cons: cheaply made

"The old adage that you get what you pay for applies to this product. Will not buy again or recommend to anyone. We ended up buying a cheap shop vac and it works great!"

Not Bad for the Price, September 22, 2008
By TheOrganist from Hoosick Falls, NY

Pros: Good for draining winter cover
Cons: Siphon pump is useless

"I've had one of these for at least six years. I made the mistake of leaving it outside this summer and the plastic broke where the tubing connects, so I ordered another one. The siphon pump is a frustration, but if you know how to get a siphon started, it can get almost every drop of water off the cover. Use it after closing but before freezing. In the spring, use it and with a few dry days the winter cover will only have a few leaves left before you remove it."

Don't waste your money, May 17, 2008
By Notapoolboy from NewYork

Pros: non-electric
Cons: siphon pump is junk

"The siphon will only get the water half way. The pump mechanism is cheap and doesn't work properly. Found myself sucking the water through the hose rather than using pump. Once the flow was going it worked well. For $20 they could have done better. I would not recommend this product to anyone but hey the packaging was nice and neat. A little quality goes a long way, this didn't even make it out of the box. Save your money."

Worked great!, February 24, 2008
By JoJo from Jacksonville, FL

Pros: This little pump was perfect for its intended use.

"It is certainly worth the money and made the job of removing the cover for the spring easier than ever. The only bit of advice I might add is that when it is not in use, take it off and put it away as the drain tube will get a crimp in it where it is touching the side of the pool."

Don't bother to waste your money, February 18, 2008
By sorceress from South Jersey, NJ

Pros: Cheap
Cons: Doesn't work for long

"I bought this last year and initially it worked out well. But the pumping mechanism is really cheaply made and it tore within a few times of using it. Save yourself the trouble and buy something sturdier."

terrific help to remove cover water, January 8, 2008
By dmessh from Central NY

Pros: very easy to use
Cons: none yet

"I have had this for only this season. I take it out of the water before it freezes in place, so I haven't had the cracking problem. It is so much easier than dragging the hose out, adding water to the hose and carrying it to the pool. You do everything right there. Terrific!!"

Simple & Effective, November 28, 2007
By SouthwesternPA from Pittsburgh

Pros: very easy to use

"The cover drain works exactly as the online description states. Hook on the hose & it's ready for use. We recently had 3 days of almost solid rainfall and it worked well. We had to "restart" the suction several times over the course of the week but it did the job. Best part is, it requires no power source & stops when it's finished."

Disappointed, November 13, 2007
By Oldman from Whiting, IN

Cons: Didn't do the job
"I put this cover drain together according to the instructions and began to squeeze the ball to begin the draining process. After about 15 minutes the water was about 6 inches into the tube. At that rate, I would be squeezing for the rest of the day and night. Needless to say I went back to my electric pump and completed the job. I wouldn;t recommend this product,"
