Not too good...,

Pros: Worked great while it lasted!  __________________________________________
Cons: Only lasted 1 season! __________________________________________
"I live in Connecticut so only use the cover from May - August.
Bought the S2340 20' x 40' Rectangle cover in May 2010. Used it from May -Aug in 2010, and again in May-Aug of 2011. BUT! By July of 2011, one seam came undone and worse than that, the bubbles started falling off! In the Swim was great though... cover was within 2 year full coverage and they are shipping me a new cover.
We even used the plastic cover to cover the real when rolled up and out of the pool. We took care of this cover... but it didn't last... I hope the replacement does and this was a 'fluke'..."

Better than the blue...,

Pros: Best heating solar cover on the market, excellent for keeping temperatures up
Cons: Lasted four years out of the eight promised, fell apart even following manufacturer's instructions
"This was the best darn solar blanket we ever owned and bought it because of the eight year warranty. It did last twice as long as any other solar cover we have ever purchased. After four years, the bubbles fell apart and the cover tore at the ends as it became brittle. We kept this cover on a reel and did cover it with the opaque cover when not in the sun as the warranty tells the consumer to do. So I was a little disappointed that it only made it half-way through the warranty, but I am ordering another one because of the tremendous payback on heat that it gave off right to the end last summer."

No better than blue,

Pros: Feels heavy, pool heats fine
Cons: 2 years is about it
"I've been using covers from In The Swim for about 15 years, figured this heavier one would make sense but it didn't last any longer than the blue ones had. So, it's back to the 12 mil blue. which also tends to start to come apart after 2 seasons, but at least costs less."

Pros: did help heat and maintain water temp.
Cons: only lasted 2 summers
"This cover is HEAVY and STIFF, even when warm. Very hard to handle. It did help heat the pool when the sun was out, and maintain the temp. at night.
However, it only lasted two summers.
Might as well buy the cheap blue ones.

Disappointed,

Pros: None
Cons: Heavy
"I have had two covers, two years each and both have fallen apart. In less than two years each cover had the bubbles falling off and once that starts it quickly escalates into heavy amounts. They are in the water, filter and all around the pool. The 1st cover was replaced but the 2nd they prorated to the purchase of the 1st which means they took off 4 years. Evidently by other reviews it is the product. I also thought I was buying a better
cover but that is not the case, I have had cheaper covers that lasted longer. I would never buy this one again and I was not happy the way they took off 4 years on a 2 year old cover.

16-mil Solar Cover,
Date:August 25, 2010
By DVelasco68

Pros: Heavy gauge, durable, Keeps pool warm, water/chemicals from evaporating
Cons: best used with a reel (not really a con)
"I bought this cover 6 years+ ago, my gas company gave me a rebate of upto $175 to do so.... This cover has been kept outside every winter (folded up) but completely uncovered, and it still looks like new... Absolutely no bubbles falling off, and the pool retains an additional 6-8 degrees (never lower than 80) even if the night is in the low 70's... With out the cover my pool water would match the lows' of the previous night... Being my kids are picky with water temp, I can add a few degrees using the heater, and put the cover back on at night... It only looses maybe 2 degrees the following day...
If you are considering buying a cover, do NOT skimp and buy a blue one, this ultra clear is the way to go (at least the one I got 6 years ago from in-the-swim) Do your self a favor and buy a reel, I bought a cheap above ground pool reel (for my inground pool), and mounted it on 4"x4"x12" wood, and it makes all the difference when using a solar cover.... Easy on, and easy off..."

Pros: Keeps Heat In
Cons: None
"This cover has worked the best to keep heat in my pool. In the past it has maintained the heater heat with maybe minus 1 degree overnite. Saving me big money!"

Disapointed with this blanket,

Pros: none
Cons: Did not heat any better, fell apart in a few years
"I purchased this product as an upgrade to the old blue blankets i have used. Did not notice any improvement on the heating of the water, retention of heat may be better. The most apparent issue was how fast the blanket fell apart, little bubbles coming off by the hundreds and very easily ripped blanket. Did get a small warranty payment so will be buying the old dependable blue blanket as in the past."

Worked for a couple year then...,

Pros: good for 2+ years
Cons: rips easily... dont like little dots floating in the pool.
"The solar cover worked for 2+ year.. then all of a sudden the thing became a piece of junk. The little bubbles began to come off constantly. Now I have little plastic dots all over the place. You would think something that was made to lay on top of the water full of chemicals would.. you know... be able to lay on top of water full of chemicals. I dont want to hear it from the manufacturer that chemicals was the reason the cover fell apart. That is like saying "Hey.. the tires on your car are good unless you drive them on asphalt/concrete". Fix your product!!"

major disappointment,

Cons: heavy, not flexible, difficult to work with
"I had my previous average solar cover for several years & it served me well- no real issues. When it wore out, I bought this one thinking I would upgrade to a better one that could perhaps do a better job with heating & keeping the water warm, which is the purpose. In that respect I haven't noticed any difference in water temps from the older cheaper model and this one is a real pain to handle. No I don't have one of those fancy reels and I suspect it would be even harder to deal with if I did. My pool is 18' & I could manage everything by myself pretty much. Now often I have to get my husband to help me because this one is so stiff and heavy to get on & off, and also when you have to clean (we get a lot of debris with thunderstorms & wind from trees). I can't wait to get a cheaper one like I had before. In The Swim are great to deal with- no issues there- great service, etc. My local pool consultant told me years ago how to maintain my pool and I have never had problems with algae or anything else for that matter, not even in the winter. They don't recommend leaving solar covers on for more than 3 days at a time and I don't, and keep my chlorine levels consistent. When the water gets cloudy, which is usually every 1-2 weeks its time to shock. Maybe they are using the wrong products?? Anyway, I will purchase again from In The Swim but not this cover, a lighter cheaper one will do just fine- air bubbles are air bubbles-period."

Awesome Product!,

Pros: Less Chemicals, Less Water Evaporation, & Less Algae
Cons: None
"I have an 18x33x52 above ground pool. Prior to purchasing this solar blanket I had one of the traditional blue solar blankets that last about a year before they fall apart and you have to throw them away. I would typically get algae at least 2 - 3 times a year depending on the weather. I would have to chlorinate my pool daily or it would get algae and I would have to add water about once a week due to evaporation in the dry season. When I purchased this solar blanket I was actually starting to get algae in my pool. I put the solar blanket on and the algae disappeared without chemicals! - just keeping my chlorine to level, no shocking or algaecide. I only chlorinate my pool once every couple of days now.
This year has really been the test. We've had 90 to 100 degree weather with no rain for over a week. I have not had to add any water and only added chlorine 3 times. Also this year, I uncovered my pool 3 weeks before I hooked my pump and filter up to run. After taking the winter cover off (which tore), I immediately put this solar cover on. In that 3 weeks I didn't have one sign of algae and my pool water was crystal clear. Definetly the best cover I've ever used - and I've had pools for over 30 years! I highly recommend this cover for everyone. Worth every extra penny!
