Unbreakable Aqua Blocks

"They hold down winter covers without splitting. Constructed from high-density black polyethylene, the walls are four times thicker than water tubes and have no seams to split or break."

Best time saver yet,

Pros: Very easy to install, much more durable than bags, no winter maintenance
Cons: Could be longer and / or wider to add weight and reduce #
"After 2 off-seasons with water bags, I just got enough of the aqua blocks to cover about 3/4 of the perimeter, thinking I could use the remaining bags that had not already broken for the rest. I loved the 3 sides that got aqua blocks, and cursed the entire time on the side with the bags because it took twice as long as the other 3 sides combined, and got me all wet! I have already replaced 2 bags due to leakage in the last 2 months. Next year, it is all blocks, all the way. Any money spent on the blocks will be made up in time savings with your first install and spring takedown - definitely a must purchase for people like me who HATE pool maintenance!"

Acceptable performance,

Pros: Easy to clean, Easy to set up
Cons: Needs to be a little thicker construction, need lots of them.
"This past year was the first year using them. I did not purchase enough of them to go around the whole pool so I had both the blocks and bags. They were just as effective as bags as both had a tendency to be dragged towards the pool. However we did loose a couple of bags during winter due to leakage and that side wound up in the drink. The aqua blocks stayed full. Some of the lids did blow off and had to be put back on several times. Cleanup was super easy, just dump the water and stack. This year I am getting enough for the other half and possibly positioning them diagonally to keep more weight on the cover to keep it from slipping. I'm done with bags. However they do take up more space in storage."

SO FAR SO GOOD,

Pros: The dog doesn't eat them like the water tubes
Cons: could be bigger
"we tried because the dog seemed to love to chew on the water tubes. actually they work pretty well. . It's the middle of winter now, and so far I haven't had any problems with the lids. They stack and store a lot easier than the tubes. overall I would say it is a good product."

Aqua Blocks,

Pros: easy to use, easy to store don't lose water
Cons: a little more expensive than water bags
"I searched the internet and stores and found the price here is the best for the aqua blocks. This product is better than water bags because they don't break and don't need to be replaced as often. They stack for easy storage and retain the water all winter long. Much easier to setup and fill than water bags. Great produt."

Pros: Compared to "water bags" much more durable.
Cons: Could be a little longer in size to engage more cover loops.
"Took 1/3 the time to install. They nest in a very small space for storage and are very easy to handle."

Pros: More durable than the tubes
Cons: Lost a few to cracking over the years
"Pound for pound these are better than tubes. Prior to purchasing the aquablocks, we were constantly replacing tubes. We've been using the blocks for about 7 years now and I just tossed 4 (out of 28) this year."

worst puchase ever,
Date:September 6, 2008
By Terri

from Mystic, CT
Cons: not heavy enough to hold pool cover in place
"Terrible! These did not hold our pool cover in place (we got 12) and as rain and snow mounted the pool cover was dragged into the pool along with some concrete blocks, damaged our liner, pool full of debris. A total disaster. These blocks weigh much less than a water tube. The covers do not stay on and blow around the yard. I would not recoomend this product. It seems like a good idea, but is not worth the cost."

So much easier and sturdier than water tubes,

By Viola

"We struggled with water tubes for years. Half of them leaked out over the winter due to the chewing of squirrels (we are in the forest), age, sun--whatever. Aqua blocks are easy to fill and stay put for the whole winter. Over 5 years, we have lost only 2 lids due to cracking. A much more economical approach for us."

Good Purchase,

Pros: Easy to fill and clean
Cons: Lid does not stay on
"This was the first winter we used this product and we will never go back to the water tubes again. These are so much easier to set up, fill and clean than the tubes. The lids do not stay on, however we put a heavy rock on top to prevent the lids from blowing off and that worked fine for us. I use a scrub brush to wash off the spring pollen and had all 6 cleaned up in less than a 1/2 hour. Except for the lid, we are very happy with this purchase."

Do not reccommend,

Pros: Reusable
Cons: Light weight material, brittle, non flexible
"Out of 6, 1 came with a broken lip and crack down the side. This is due to thier rigid plastic contruction. If their were flexible like rubbermaid then these would have been actually made for the job. Plastic is thin material. I don't expect the others to last."

Does the job,
Date:August 15, 2007
By Wheels
Pros: Keeps the pool cover in place
Cons: Lid blows off; normally lose 3-4 every time the wind blows
"Not sure why the lid catches are not more secure... They need a bit more plastic in each catch to hold the lid properly. Often, the catching mechanism is so flimsy that it's difficult to know when the lid is actually locked in place."
