aluminum 12 mil solar cover,
August 21, 2008
By coloradofrom Colorado
Pros: heavy and thick Cons: doesn't heat water like blue
"I agree with ladybug from Wisconsin. I've had blue covers in the past which have been quite effective in heating and retaining heat in my pool here in Colorado. The aluminum solar cover is nowhere as effective for heating which we really need here in colorado since the air is so dry and evaporation cools everything. With the blue I didn't have to use any supplementary heating; with the aluminum I need to leave on the gas heater all night. I would have returned it but unfortunately I had to cut it to fit the shape of my pool. Don't get aluminized covers if you want the cover to actually aid in heating the pool."

Silver Series 12 mil.Ultra-clear Aluminized Solar,
July 17, 2008
By ladybugfrom Cudahy, Wisconsin
"I have always use the 8ml blue solar cover. They have lasted 6 to 8 years. So this year I thought I would invest in a better cover. All the reviews said good things about the 12 mil Ultra-clear aluminized solar blankets so I bought it. I have had it on my pool for 2 weeks of 85 to 90 degree full sun. The water temp today is only 74. With my blue it would of been in the 80's. I live in Wisconsin near Lake Michigan. I'm sending the blanket back and will go get the blue one."

Good Buy,

Pros: Keeps pool warm, clean, lowers chemical use
"We bought the cover and reel deal at the beginning of summer. After spending one year without it we praise it's use. Our pool has maintained between 2-3 degrees and is already at the temp it took it until late July to get to last year. This is a MUST HAVE for any pool owner."

Hot solar cover,
September 1, 2007
By DnMJ
Pros: Heats up the water for longer swimming season Cons: The white cover included to protest it is not long and/or wide enough to fully cover it.
"We live in the northern part of the US where winters are long and cold. To extend the swimming season a pool cover is a must. this is a great choice for above ground pools. It is important to protect the cover with the white sun poly tarp when solar cover is not on the pool. Unfortunately the one included with this was not long enough for the reel system we use, so we have to put beach towels over the solar blanket to protect it."

Pros: I hardly ever use my heater anymore, saves me money! Cons: typically only last @ 3 years.
"I love our new silver solar cover. It heats the water up enough so that we no longer have to supplement with our heater. Thanks for a product that actually works. Now if you could just get them to last longer!"

Solar Cover good value when used regularly,
August 13, 2007
By ThePoolGirl
Pros: good heat retention Cons: starts to disenigrate after a couple years
"I am purchasing my 3rd solar cover, I have had the blue 12 mil and the silver 12 mil - for the money I will be purchasing the blue 12 mil from now on. I have had the same problem with both covers - after about 2 years of use (about two months after the 2 year full warranty expired), the cover starts to disintegrate. The cover also ripped lengthwise in several places (mostly by seam), and the water constantly has the plastic bubble tops (that come off cover) floating around the pool. We have 2 adults put the cover on, and kept the chemicals in balance. If you buy this cover, be ready to turn in a warranty claim before the two years runs out for the full 100% credit, I have missed it both times by less than a year. A solar cover is definately worth the money you save in heating costs when used regularly - just need to be prepared to replace it every couple of years. Blue 12 mil is a good selection since I have had to replace both silver and blue."

Pros: ok for heat retention Cons: doesn't seem to heat the pool water as much as the blue ones do
"the silver color blanket doesn't seem to generate the heat that the blue colored blankets do. if i could sent this back and exchange it for a blue i would in a heartbeat"

Not the Best,
July 20, 2007
By QuadCities
Pros: Heavy cover, holds the heat well Cons: Does not last very long
"Seemed like a great cover when initially purchased. Very heavy and kept the heat in well. At the start of the third summer (two months after the 2 year full warranty expired), the cover virtually disintegrated. The cover ripped lengthwise in several places, and the skimmer is constantly full of the plastic bubble tops that are peeling off and floating around the pool. We always kept the white protective cover on the solar cover when rolled up, did not shock the pool with the cover on, and kept the chemicals in balance. The pro rated warranty dropped the value to 40% value two months after the full warranty ran out. If you buy this cover, be ready to turn in a warranty claim before the two years runs out. We will be going somewhere else for a replacement."

Save your money and get this one.,

Pros: Thick, well made. Raised pool temp a lot! Cons: None!
"I was going to buy the more expensive 16-mil, ultra-clear blanket but it was sold out in my size. Since I needed one and didn't want to wait I bought this 12-mil Ultra Clear instead. I am glad I did...I can't imagine why you would need anything thicker. This is a solid cover and if you are using a reel should easily last many years. It was about a foot larger than the stated size, but was easy to cut with scissors to fit perfectly.
I had it on all week and it did a great job of keeping in the heat overnight and absorbing the heat during the day.
If you want a premium cover without the premium price, this is the one."
