Great New Product,
July 10, 2007
By warmwaters
|
Pros: Light weight for handling
Cons: Can be expensive if you need a lot
"THis is a fantastic new product. Easy for one person to handle, not like solar blankets that are very heavy and need 2 people.. Great for keeping the water warm when not using the pool, thus saves money on the heating bill. We originally ordered 15 rings thinking we would have one extra. We needed to order 5 more, thus 80% of the pool is now covered. Easy storage when not in use. Place on a plastic tarp and cover them. ."

Save your money!,
June 17, 2009

Pros: Easy to use/remove; does seem to generate heat
Cons: Are not durable; false claim of BTU gains!
"I purchased 16 of these used from a co-worker after he had used them for one season. They are now in the beginning of their 3rd year of use. They are easy to use and do definitely raise the water temperature a modest degree; problem is they are VERY expensive and are not holding up well. The outer ring on most of them is curling and the plugs do not stay closed. If you are o.k. with spending a fortune and only getting 2-3 years usage then maybe they will work for you. My advice is to buy a very heavy mil solar cover and cut it into pieces; it would accomplish pretty much the same thing. The solar rings make an outrageous claim of BTU gains per ring that is just not substantiated. The rings appear to be made of one sheet of 12 mil or so solar blanket sandwiched to a clear, bubbled plastic that you put a few puffs of air into to help them float. My guess is that they actually cause little more solar/thermal gain than a high mil solar cover and for far less expense. And, all solar cover material floats!"

Not as good as I expected,

Pros: heats pool minimally
Cons: time consuming to remove, costly, can't return
"I bought several of these 2 years ago. Some are no longer usable. It does heat my pool somewhat and I still use them, but for the price it really didn't work as well as I expected. I rarely have problems with them blowing away, but it is a pain to remove them and put them back in and keep them inflated."

Great Job & Easy Use,
February 24, 2009
By BeachBoy
from Central Florida
|
Pros: Easy On - Easy Off - Raise Temp over 5 degrees
Cons: A little toouchy to inflate properly
"I used these at the beginning & end of 2008 swim season. Raised pool temp enough to extend season 2 weeks or better at each end. I have had no trouble with them blowing off. Found easy to move a couple of them for using part of the pool then a big solar cover. When done, I deflate and fold and put in plastic storage box in the garage. I am very happy. Hope they are as good in 2009."

Biggest regret ever,
September 4, 2008
By Darhead

Pros: Look pretty
Cons: Too many to list
"I read the reviews before I purchased these and I wish I would have listened to the bad reviews because they were correct. I was able to inflate them with the advice of adding a drop of water, but they blow around the pool like water wings, you have to get into the pool to connect them, they don't heat the pool like our previous solar covers did and they don't retain the heat so we suffered substantially higher gas bills because we have a heater. Do not buy, buy a solar cover and a reel. I will be throwing my $450 purchase away this fall. They looked like pretty lily pads, but who wants lily pads in a pool?"

They do not work and you can not return them!,
July 29, 2008
By Bonnie18

Pros: They look better than the blanket on the pool
Cons: They do not work and you can't return them.
"I read a lot of reviews on the solar rings the beginning of this summer. I must have missed the reviews that indicated that they do not work as these have not raised the temperature of our pool one degree! They are very expensive and you can not return them. I thought solar rings would be a good solution to the ugly solar covers and the idea that one person could remove them, but they are very bulky (5 ft. diameter) to remove and you have to drain some of the water that gets in the pockets. It is time consuming and you have to find a good place to store them out of the sun. Carrying 14 rings over to our pool house was too much work so I placed them on a cover on the edge of the pool and put a white sheet over them to reflect the sun. All of this work would have been worth it if they had raised the temperature of the pool even 5 degrees but our pool stayed between 70-75 degrees with or without the rings. After spending about $350 we could not return them since they have been used but how do you know if they work unless you try them on your pool? Everyone has the same return policy whether you buy online or at your local pool store so these were a total waste of good money!"

they won't change your pool temp,
July 23, 2008
By micapa5

Pros: one person can put them on/off
Cons: expensive, don't change pool temp,
"We were very disapointed that the rings didn't seem to heat the pool up at all. Although one person can easily put them on and off, it takes longer to put them on/off then it does to put a solar blanket on/off. They also stick together when they're off the pool and don't stay inflated. The recommended number of rings for our pool were not enough...so we ended up ordering 8 more, hoping that would help warm up the pool....it didn't. They simple do not change the water temp. A waste of money and time!"

Pros: EASY TO HANDLE TAKING ON & OFF<EASY FOR KIDS TO HANDLE BY THEMSELVES
Cons: FOLDS OVER,GOES ON TOP OF EACH OTHER
"VERY EXPENSIVE PRODUCT --WE PURCHASED 21 RINGS AND THIS DID NOT EVEN COVER ALL THE POOL OVER $500 WASTED, POOL TEMP NEVER CHANGED, AND CONSTANTLY DEFLATED, WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY I COULD HAVE BOUGHT SOLAR PANELS FOR THE SIDE OF THE POOL & IT WOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB,JUST TOTALLY DISSATISFIED WITH PRODUCT....DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!"

Excellent product,

Pros: Makes water warm easily
Cons: none
"So much easier to deal with than large, clumsy, solar cover. Fold and lift. So easy to move them in and out of pool. Bought them last year, and don't really care that they fade. They do their job! Recommended them to many friends who are also happy with them. Never had a problem blowing off the pool?"

Waste of money,
June 21, 2008
By Bitohoney4

Pros: NONE
Cons: As a heat source - very minimal if any
"Even though these rings came with magnets they blew off the pool frequently. They were a pain to inflate correctly. We spent more time chasing them and putting them back in the pool than getting benefits to swim. 10 rings = $300??? A total waste of money"

Not worth the expense.,

Pros: They look great on the pool when they are new.
Cons: Clumsy to handle, no heating effect, faded by end of summer.
"They are difficult to handle and storage while off the pool can be an issue. I didn't notice any difference between using the solar sun rings or nothing at all. Also, heat evaporated from the open spaces on cooler mornings."

Pros: easy on; easy off; great heat
Cons: storage while using pool--Don't lay them on the grass.
"These are really good. Easy to put on easy to take off. Don't lay them in the grass--DUH! they still capture the sun's heat and will burn. place them in the shade on the deck."

Not good with wind,
June 4, 2008
By Karen
from Bel Air, MD
|
Pros: Easy to put on
Cons: Don't stay in place. Loose air after 1 year. Difficult to store. Blow off in the wind!
"I would not recommend this product. The rings blow around at the slighest wind. They are cumbersome to store while you are in the pool. They were difficult to blow up to the correct fullnest. They can not be too full or not full enough. I used the rings last year. I deflated them and stored them over the winter. Now at least 4 rings will not hold air. I have retired the rings and ordered a traditional solar cover. What a waste of a lot of money!"

warm pool,
November 7, 2007
By Dave97006
from Palm Springs CA
|
Pros: light, easy to use & clean
Cons: maybe a little delicate, NOT cheap
"their calculator does not compute enough. Their guideline of 70-80% coverage is more accurate. I figured each Ring as 25 sq ft (close enough), by pool is 16x32ish I have 12 and they raise the temp 3 degrees & the pool looses 3 degrees at night (74 in the AM and 77 in the afternoon), I'm adding a 13th so maybe it will heat it a little more during the day and loose a little less @ night. They DO insulate much better than the blue bubbles and definately easier to handle. To clean them, I just dunk them and shake off the water, they are smooth on both side so nothing really sticks."

Pros: they are quite small
Cons: Absolutely useless

Solar Rings,
September 1, 2007
By Judy
|
Pros: One person can easily handle, as effective as the solar blanket
Cons: Fragile and initial set up is difficult
"These are an excelllent alternative to the solar blanket. They are equally or more effective and certainly much easier to handle. I took the advice of one reviewer and ordered two additional over the recommended number and I think it was good advice.
They are fragile. When I received them, one had a slit before I even inflated it. The manufacturer immediately sent me a replacement, with no hassle. I have only used them this one season, and now have to patch a number of them. I do have small critters in my yard that sometime may end up in the pool and I don't know if that is causing the problem or not. I wish that the outer ring could be more like a spring float gizzmo and not the inflatable.
Another issue is inflation. One reviewer had good advice on how to do that and I wish I had paid more attention to his review before I set mine up."
