Pros: Does the Job Accurately, Reliably. Good Value
Cons: Faint buzzing noise
"Bronze manifold had a rough mating surface to the rubber gasket, so I used a thin line of black rtv high temp silicon from automotive shop for a sure seal. Heats my 15x3 round 2.5degF per hour in 80F ambient. Does a good job. Faint electronic buzzing noise said to be an "operational feature" by Pentair tech support, can be heard within 8 or 10 ft of unit. Not a big deal, typical transformer noise. You should not be attaching black gas pipe directly to gas inlet - violates code and is extremely dangerous. Use yellow flexible gas connector of 5/8" inner diameter for good flow. Recommend for 7,000gal or less pool, 1,500 or less spa."

Pros: simple, efficient, good price
Cons: Not digital
"We replaced our minimax pilot with the minimax electronic ignite and we LOVE it. It was simple to install, so far seems to be about as efficient as one can expect. We've only had 2 gas bills so far, the first one was estimated low, making the 2nd one a little on the high side. So the cost of heating it per month is hard to tell. Anyhow, I do know this heater works faster than the previous model. We have a 15x30 52" above ground pool. I can turn the heater on in the AM around 7 ish. The temp will be in the mid 80's and by noonish I can have it up to the low 90's. (With the solar cover on). We keep our pool quite warm for our special needs daughter....actually it is her pool, it was provided thru Make A Wish about 4 years ago. I would definitely recommend the minimax electronic ignite. It was really a good price compared to all the other heaters I looked at and so far is doing a great job! The only down side is that it doesn't have a digital setting."

Very disappointed,

Pros: Electronic Ignition
Cons: Inefficient heating of 10,000 gal. above ground pool
"Set up was a challange. Had to fabricate a larger hole for the black gas supply pipe. Also had to replace the electrical cord as I had my previous heater hardwired thru conduit back to my 200 amp box. We like the water warm for evening swims. This heater has yet to get the water to a satisfying temperature, even with the setting as high as it will go. My next heater will be a Hayward. That is the brand I had previous to this one. I guess this is what I get for trying to save $100"

Pros: shuts off when pressure is low
Cons: shuts off when pressure is low
"This unit is very easy to install. Definitely get the electronic ignition model. My millivolt model I had to light the pilot every season manually. This model also wont heat if your pool needs to be backflushed,so its a good reminder. Definitely worth buying."

Review 7 for "Pentair Mini-Max 100,000 BTU Heater for Above Ground Pools"
Pros: Easy setup, easy to replace, reliable heat, reasonable price
Cons: Avoid millivolt model; heater should last longer
"This is an electronic spark ignition model that I replaced a millivolt (pilot) model with. Both were Minimax 100s. I kept the same brand and model to be able to re-attach existing gas and pool water lines. The old model, identical except for the ignition type, lasted 6 years. It was only fairly reliable, and this was because the pilot needed to be re-lit many times during the swimming season. After 6 years, there was considerable rust and deterioration inside the unit, including the spark unit that lit the pilot, which failed. I was using a grill lighter the last three years to light the pilot -- this was tedious. Now, the electronic ignition system has been very reliable over the last two months that we've had it. One dissapointment with these models is that while I use the unit outdoors from late May to late September, then disconnect it and store it in a dry shed, the internals have still deteriorated too quickly, imo. Overall, it does a very good job of heating my 10,000 gal. 21 ft. round above-ground pool. The rate is about 1 degree per hour. We've had it as warm as 90 degrees (by accident), which is a bit too warm!"
