This was amazing !!, August 31, 2007
By gatekeeper

Pros: Held the heat in 60 degree weather !!!
Cons: none !!

"In Ohio it is hot and cold from one day to the next. I have a 27 in round above ground pool and found solar covers to be a pain trying to get on and off by yourself and had problems with algee when I put one on causing more chemical use..aka cost.. It was in the 90's last week and now dropped to the 50's at night. I was scepticle but put a solar ball in on the hot day and now that it has gotten cooler outside my pool water is still like bathwater !! Truly unbelievable and no mess or hastle. I also use my pool for physical therapy and it saves me even more money not having to pay to use an indoor pool yet. This is truly amazing as there has been no heat evaporation rising up from the pool in the mornings and I don't have to freeze my buns off in the water !!!!!! You HAVE to try this product !!"

Its a pill alright, August 28, 2007
By Gman234567

Pros: Easy to use
Cons: I clorinate throught my skimmer and this doesnt allow that.

"The pill was easy to use but I was not happy with the fact that you cant clorinate in the skimmer with the pill in there also. I also didn't notice much of a difference with the pill and without it. I have one left and will use it for September and be back to let you know if it made a difference with colder nights."

It Helps, August 22, 2007
By LapSwimmer

Pros: Easy to use, it helps
Cons: Not as effective as a good cover

"We have big local temperature swings on a daily basis and the Solarpill is easy to use and helps keep the pool a few degrees warmer. Only small benefit but very small effort."

Amazing, August 22, 2007
By TomM

Pros: Easy to use, Don't need to unroll or take off pool, Really Worked
Cons: Must remember to put new ball in once a month

"I was a skeptic. How could a small ball warm my pool. I was also concerned that this would somehow cause an oil slick across the pool or do something strange.
Was I ever wrong. We put the first pill in on May 15th, just three days after opening the pool. We swam in a great warm pool for Memorial Day. We have never done that, never! It's usually too cold here in the NE for that.
While my neighbors spent memorial day checking their chemicals and pulling off their covers; we spent the weekend swimming. In July and August our pool was an average of four degrees warmer than it has ever been.
This will certainly be part of my Spring Order.
Tom"

Great Option, August 22, 2007
By Lori

Pros: Easy to use, long lasting
Cons: Pool is a little dirtier

"This product really does help maintain a warm pool temperature. I use it along with a solar cover. I put the solar cover on until I reach the desired temperature, then use the Solar Pill to maintain it for about a month. My pool is 15 degres warmer than this time last year."

solar pill, August 22, 2007
By c3jn

Pros: definately warms water
Cons: doesn't last long

"Although we don't need a solar cover in the summer we used these balls to help get into the pool sooner. I would estimate it adds a couple of weeks to use here in the midatlantic. The only drawback I can see is that you go through them quickly...certainly not 30 days...given the price...it isn't really cost effective but it looks better than a solar cover and reel"

Effective Produce, August 20, 2007
By MaggieDee

Pros: Easy to use

"I live in the midwest where spring tempertures are warm during the day and much cooler at night. The solar pill did keep the water warmer and I was able to swim earlier and more ofter during those spring days. Since the chemicals stay on the surface of the water, they seemed to get washed out pretty quickly when I backwashed the pool. I began putting my skimmer lid in the same position that I put it in when vaccuming the pool and I put the vaccum hose's connecter piece in the pool's vaccum hole. That forced the water to be backwashed thru the vaccum hole (which is about 3" below the water level) and the solar chemicals which were laying on the water's surface didn't get washed out as quickly."

Not sure the product works as advertised, August 9, 2007
By wabborgee

Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Not sure it works as advertised

"We have used the solar pill this summer. It is easy to use, but how do you tell if it is working as advertised when the weather fluctuates the way it has this summer. We will probably go back to a solar cover next summer.

A cover is good, but this stuff does work, August 9, 2007
By KEVANDTHEBOYZZ

Pros: Easy to use, no cover hassles

"I was skeptical about this product. But it does keep the water a bit warmer. We didnt have to go and cover the pool when we used this liquid. It does leave a film on top of the water, and it did feel a bit greasy to me, but no one else noticed. May have been the suntan lotion also... ??"

Heat it up Easily, June 30, 2007
By Sunshine

Pros: Quick, responsive, and convenient
Cons: Somewhat noisy

"This is the first time I tried the product and it definitely won't be the last. It’s easy to just pop it in the pool. No effort, no hassle, and works great. I’ve used solar covers for several years and I had to have help from another person putting it on and taking it off because I don’t won’t a big reel in the way when I want to enjoy my pool fun. Now that I am older and have back trouble, I can’t afford to strain and be in pain. Plus, I noticed that if your chemicals aren’t just right, or you put the solar cover on after you added chemical; the cover would deteriorate and small pieces or particles would get in the pump system and cause bigger problems. The Solar Pill won’t ever do that and it is a great solution. I bought it so that I could use it in early spring and late fall timeframe, to heat up the pool for an extended use of the pool time. It’s very effective in accomplishing this and I would recommend it to everyone who likes to swim year round."

Not the same as it used to be, June 7, 2007
By Frank

Cons: Smaller than before; need to use more
"This is called the Solar Ball, not SolarPill. Directions state to change every 5 days, not every 30 days. It is only 1/3 the size of the ones that I bought last year. This is why they now come in a 4 pack instead of the 2 pack. I put the first one in today. The product has worked in the past, but this is the first time using the smaller one."

In The Swim Best Seller, June 6, 2007
By Rewart

Pros: Easy to use, effective and inexpensive.
Cons: None.

"The Solar Pill has been an In The Swim best seller since we first started carrying it a few years ago. It is a great product that is very easy to use – just put it in your skimmer and let the contents empty; that is all you have to do for up to 30 days of warmer water in your pool! This is achieved by the creation of a thin layer of non-toxic, bio-degradable film on your pool surface from the contents of the Solar Pill. The Solar Pill is not a replacement for a traditional solar cover, but a simple low-cost way to retain heat in your pool without the hassle of managing a full solar blanket."

Not Best Purchase Ever, June 2, 2007
By Tribucks

Pros: "Seems" like it might be working
Cons: You can't really tell

"I've used 3 of these things now. The first one seemed to work -- the pill emptied out and refilled with what I thought was probably pool water. The 2nd time, I found an empty pill knocking around in the skimmer. I wasn't certain which result was right and which was wrong. Right now, there's one that "might" be full of water after about 4 days. That's why I came here -- to find out. From your response to the 1st review, now I know, but maybe the directions could be more clear on what to expect.
Also, my pool seems to be quite a bit dirtier. I think a big reason is because you have to redirect the returns downward to retain pool surface integrity, but is there a chance the thin layer is causing bugs and leaves to resist the skimmer more? It almost seems like some things are "stuck" on the surface as they pass the skimmer, for lack of a better term."

Don't waste your money like I did., May 28, 2007
By BobS

Pros: Simple to use
Cons: Does not work.

"Concept is great, the problem is there is no way to tell if it is working or not. I tried this for 2 weeks and water temperature went up about a degree a day. Put my solar cover on and water temperature went up 5 degrees in one day. Air tempurature was 60s at night and mid 80's during the day for this time period."

I've used better, May 16, 2007
By Rick

Pros: out of sight in the skimmer
Cons: no way to tell when it's empty or even if it's actually working

"I originally bought a "solar fish" at a local pool supply store that pumped the liquid into the pool over a period of a month or so. I was able to see that it was working simply by seeing the bag (fish) empty out. When this ran out I bought the Solar Pill. The Solar Pill is a solid ball that doesn't use a pump. Being solid there is no way that you can tell if the liquid is actually being released and the ball is filling with pool water, or if it's empty of the chemical and full of pool water."
