Nice steps for the bucks, July 26, 2009
By kimm from Fort Wayne, IN

Pros: Not to difficult to install
Cons: The placement of the sandbags

"I bought these steps for my grandchildren mostly, so they can safely enter & exit the pool. I find though this is great for us 50 yr olds as well. A lot easier to use then climbing up the ladder. When the steps arrived the delivery driver was great, he actually helped me move the steps to the pool area. Something they dont have to do. The steps arrived quickly and when I purchased them they were on sale, plus I was able to use a discount on top of that. No one else could beat the price. My only complaint about the steps is the location of sandbags. It would have been nice if they would have designed the steps for easier placement of sandbags. I have to close pool for winter and remove the steps. It is going to be a little rough removing the bags. The bags are located in the back of steps, I will have to tilt the steps forward and lay them over to remove sand bags. Thats what I had to do when I put them in place.
All and all great steps for the price. We will be enjoying them for years to come.

Parental access, December 15, 2008
By Sootywbug from Providence, RI

Pros: Else of Delivery & Installation, Safe & Stable
Cons: None

"My parents have alwats led an active life and have always enjoyed their ingroud pool. Unfortunately as the years progressed and they reached their mid 80's their ability to climb the ladder out of the pool has become more difficult. Believe me when I tell you their daily ritual of an early morning swim together from opening day until closing day astonished many of their friends. The selection of a safe and stable set of stairs was paramount in my selection. Ease of installation was also important. This product succeeded on all counts. They say they see no reason not to continue their morning swims faor many years to come."

Easy Setup and Fantastic Look, July 19, 2008
By JoshO from Boston, MA

Pros: Light-weight, looks great, easy set-up
Cons: Requires a metal drilling bit and fasteners for your pool patio

"First of all, In The Swim offers a fantastic online shopping experience. Nobody could touch the price I got on these stairs here, and they came with the base pad (charging $50 elsewhere), and FREE SHIPPING!! (charging up to $125 and $150 elsewhere). These steps ship out via Freight, so appointment to accept delivery is required. With In The Swim, I ordered on a Wednesday and received the stairs on the following Tuesday. Very quick, in my opinion.

Now for the stairs... we own an in ground 20' X 40' pool, vinyl lined. We have a wooden deck around the pool and no access into the shallow end (accept jumping) which isn't conducive to easy play for our 3 year old son. The stairs came wrapped in plastic with the railing attached, instructions and hardware are inside the railing. The stairs require sandbags as ballast. I used (3) 50lb. bags of play sand (picked up at Home Depot for $3.50 per bag), wrapped in 3 trash bags, taped with gorilla tape (the strongest tape I could find). This way the sand does not leak into the pool.

I installed the steps on my own. I carried them from the curb to my pool (about 200 yards), they weigh about 75 or 80 lbs once you take the railing off. Carrying with 2 people is better. Once they are at your pool, attach the railing using hardware provided (don't forget slide the fastening bracket on before you attach the railing permanently! I did this and had to remove the bolts and start over). You'll need a good screwdriver and some needle-nosed pliers in order to keep the nut from spinning as you tighten the bolts. Two bolts and you're done. Now drop the stairs into the pool and onto the pad. The manufacturer recommends putting the sandbags in before dropping the stairs in the pool, but since I was by myself, I decided to add the sandbags after I dropped the stairs into the pool. Easy enough.

Position the stairs on the pad, and bolt to your patio (this is where you need to check with your pool manufacturer - different patio surfaces require different fastening methods). If you have a wooden deck then it's very simple - just use wood screws. The last step is drilling a hole through the railing and fastener to secure with the last provided bolt (you'll need a good battery-operated drill and a metal drill bit), this is so the stairs don't swing out of position when the water is moving. I tried to get by without this bolt (and it works fine) but I then decided to add the bolt as I was finding myself adjusting the stairs every now and then since my son plays on them so much.

That's it - very simple and the stairs look awesome. My son just loves them and he won't stay out of the pool! Highly recommended. The look better in person.

Good luck!

Great Product, August 23, 2007
By Georgiagirl from Cairo, GA

Pros: Relatively easy to install; Looks good in the pool
Cons: Couple of bolts on product under water tend to rust

"Our pool is approximately 25 years old. It was difficult for me to use the ladders to get out of the pool. We are extremely pleased with these steps. They actually look great in the pool and are very easy to install and are very sturdy. They have made a world of difference for me in entering and exiting the pool - it is so easy now!"

Misleading Product Info, June 6, 2007
By PoolMamma

Pros: Nice Look
Cons: Not So Easy to Install

"The steps were not as easy to install as the description makes them out to be. You have to drill into the pool deck, which is usually cement, and find 4 screws, yes find as they are not included, to affix it to the pool deck. You have to have a certain drill bit and then go on a hunt for the screws. I have had to call a pool professional to come and install them and then it took him 2 weeks to find the correct screws, because the screws cannot stick up above the metal plate, and get them installed. It was easier and much less expensive to climb in and out."
