polaris 65 durability,

Pros: great job of cleaning, runs off discharge of pump so never loses suction or stops operting
Cons: last 2 maybe 3 years max, gets stuck by ladder and needs to be rescued, so cleaning under ladder doesn't happen
"Expensive when you consider how long it lasts. The internal mechanism stops working properly so the cleaner won't makei t around he pool, stays in one area of pool.
Buy the 2 tear no questions asked warranty and 1 year and 10 months from now tell them it broke because if it hasn't, it propably will. Al least you'll get 2 + 2seasons for your $200 + $20.

"i've bought 2 of these polaris 65's over a 3 year period, they just quit working, will only go in one direction. also the hose on the bottom doesn't last as long as the top hose. over all i don't think it's worth what they cost."

1st one great, 2nd one not worth it,

Pros: Leave it hooked up all the time and have a clean pool
Cons: Hose from unit to debris bag disconnects.
"I purchased this product about 6 years ago and it worked great - 5 stars! I would leave it hooked up all week with no problems and pool maintenance was minimal. The hose from the unit to the debris bag finally gave out and is not offered as a separate item so I purchased a new unit. After 4 months, the hose on the new unit has started to disconnect from the unit causing the unit to stop moving around the pool and preventing the return of filtered/chlorinated pool water from properly circulating and requiring a lot more pool maintenance. I give the new unit 1 star rating. Overall 3 star rating as a combination of the two."

Polaris 65,

Pros: Keeps on going and going
Cons: The new one isn't as good as the older ones
"I purchased my first Polaris 65 several years ago. I would not have had to purchase another one, but I needed to replace all the hoses, etc. I thought for the price, I would just buy a complete new one. However, I found the new one does not work as well as my old one. I actually am using my old cleaner with the new hoses and it's working perfectly. I wish I would have purchased just what I needed, but you live and learn. Anyway, the old blue and yellow 65 is the best."

Disappointed three times,

Pros: Works well for a short time
Cons: Stops working and only goes forward or backward
"I am working on my third polaris 65 in the last 5 seasons. It seems they have a problem with the little ball that gets jammed and it will only go in one direction. This prevents it from cleaning the entire surface of the pool bottom. It is wonderful when it works properly but all three of them have eventually done exactly the same thing. I was surprised that I only read one other review that mentioned this problem. This last one only lasted for about two months. I hope that this problem can be fixed."

Excellent product,

Pros: Plugs in to outtake rather than intake
Cons: Doesn't always cover entire pool area
"This is the second Polaris 65 I have owned. I had the first one over 10 years and liked it so much I bought a new one when the main piece of it eventually got broken. It doesn't plug in to the intake of the pool, so you can continue putting chlorine tablets in the skimmer and having it skim off the top of the water. It instead plugs into the outtake and does an excellent job of keeping the bottom of the pool clean of bugs and debris. I do have a little trouble keeping the area around the skimmer/outtake clean. For some reason it doesn't want to clean around that area as well as it does the rest of the pool. I still think it's the best automatic pool cleaner you can buy."

Great Purchase and Customer Service,
Date:July 18, 2009
By casandy
Pros: Easy to put together, Lightweight, easy to manouver
Cons: Doesn't work on soft sided above ground pools
"This pool cleaner is very easy to put together and use. It is not so heavy that you struggle getting it in and out of the pool like some of the bigger pool cleaners. This cleaner is not suitable for soft sided pools, however customer service is very accomodating and helpful with any concerns you might have."

Works good...for a while,
Date:June 2, 2009

Pros: For first 1.5 pool seasons, worked pretty well, despite a fondness to get hung up on ladders.
Cons: "Randomizer" ball gets stuck in one jet, causing it to coil itself into a useless ball. No amount of servicing can fix.
"Worked great the first 1.5 seasons. Kept the water clean and really sped up pool opening. Also reduced the amount of manual vacuuming by 66%.
After that 1.5 season point, "randomizer" ball (inside the body) would constantly get stuck in the rear jet of one side. Cleaning and replacing parts did nothing to correct this behavior, so I'm of the belief that our first 1.5 years was a fluke.
The "randomizer" ball is a major design flaw in this product. It is not random. Before I throw away my Polaris 65, I'm going to remove the randomizer ball to see if it can be made to work *any* better...it can't be much worse. :("

Pros: I run the Polaris most of the time the pool is not in use. My first one lasted almost 10 years
Cons: The replacement mesh bag is a little expensive.
"I have just ordered my second Polaris 65. First one lasted almost 10 years. It is not perfect but it will keep the bottom of your pool clean of the larger iems such as leaves, sticks and hair. It will clean about 90% of the bottom. Cuts vacuuming more than 50%. That is the largest advantage."

Pros: Awesome
Cons: Always broken
"This was my first time having a pool so when I purchased this item I thought it was too good to be true. This Polaris does a great job of cleaning the pooll in a short amount of time. After having this item for about 2 weeks, maybe 3 uses the darned jets got clogged and it doesn't clean in 3 hrs it's more like 24 I am unable to find someone to work on the thing. I would recomend you look into other items!!"

Pros: Easy to use, store, and empty
Cons: Fitting my 18' EasySet
"This thing works great. Completely cleans everything from bottom of pool. Even used it to find a lost earring once. Only problem, as stated in another review (and why I gave only 4 stars), was the fact that it doesn't connect to my 18' EasySet. Here was my fix - I purchased a small hose, like the one that connects the skimmer that comes with the EasySet, and the same connector that connects the skimmer to the EasySet input valve. I connect this to the Polaris hose using a clamp. Total cost was about $10.00."

I LOVE this product,
Date:August 8, 2008
By RobLI
Pros: Keeps the pool clean with no fuss. Attaches to the return so your skimmer still works efficiently.
Cons: The instructions could be clearer
"I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. I have my pool filter attached to a timer so it goes on and off automatically; and I keep the Polaris 65 hooked up unless we are using the pool. As a result I haven't had to vacum the pool since I bought this product. The pool is now essentially self maintaining and always sparkling clean. In fact, it's cleaner than when I vacumed the pool myself. When first installed the Polaris would flip over (because the presure from the filter return was too strong), but once I reduced the water pressure with the regulator valve that comes with the Polaris, it slowed down and has worked perfectly ever since."

Pros: Picks up leaves
Cons: Leaves small items, HOSE PROBLEM
"I have had this for under a year. I have an 18 x 33 pool and have to get extra 8 Feet of hose. When the extension hose is attached it has no locking fitting. In other words the hose goes direct to return jet, after about 2 minutes return jet shoots the hose off. I removed the extension and of course the far end of the pool it can not reach needs to be manually vaccumed. I hate it. Looking for something else that actually works"

Not Very Good,

Pros: Started Out Strong
Cons: Finished Weak
"When I first purchased my pool the Polaris was included in the package I got, now I see why. It started out working very well and in fact did all that it said it could do. Then in about 2 weeks it started acting funny all the jets didn't work or it got clogged very easily. After having it serviced several times by the store I purchased the pool from I decided to toss it and clean my pool manually. I am now looking for something more dependable and fully warranted."

Pros: Keeps things moving around on bottom of pool
Cons: Jets misfire causing it to coil and stay in one spot
"I've had my Polaris 65 for 5 years now. Unfortunatley, it has been broken more than it has worked. I've had it repaired several times only to have it break again. The jets don't fire like they should so it just wraps itself up in a coil and sits there. Does a good job of picking up big objects like leaves and sticks and even toys. Need the extra fine net if you want to pick up really small particles. It's easy to use and has great pressure since its on the return hose. Looks like others have had better success with it than I have. I'm going to try something else."
